I was introduced to Yoga 20 years ago and immediately loved the flow, balance and strength Yoga gave me. I am not naturally bendy or an ex-dancer but over the years I have gained flexibility, suppleness, stamina and strength, but most importantly I have learnt to relax and restore my body. Pilates came into my life at school for a short time then again before and after my daughter for a number of years. Whilst self-practising I found myself pairing both Yoga & Pilates and loved it!
Combining the two, Yogalates, it's the perfect blend for my body at this time in my life, I love sharing this combo, I really believe it is the perfect pairing for ones body, it focuses on the centre of the body, strengthening and toning the 'core' muscles - the abdominals, glutes and lower back helping with stabilisation of the spine helping reduce lower back pain. It gives flexibility and mobility of the joints, helps with balance, improves posture and overall body awareness and control.
Yoga & Pilates have always been there for me and have become a part of my life that continues to evolve. I had been wanting to train as a Yoga teacher for some time, but the time was never right. After running a business for 15 years and the birth of my daughter the time was right aged 48! Qualifying with Simon Low at The Yoga Academy, a British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) accredited school (200 hours) a two year teacher training course. I've been teaching in Sussex since then.
My self practice and after suffering from back pain from lifting a heavy load repetitively I reconnected with my love of Pilates which led me to qualifty as an L3 Pilates instructor in Hove age 51.
My teaching is inspired by the many styles I have practiced Astanga, Vinyasa, and Yin Yoga. I teach Vinyasa Flow, Yogalates & Pilates mat flow. Vinyasa flow is a series of asanas (postures) synchronised with the breath smoothly flowing from one asana to another focusing on alignment. A dynamic flow with modifications increasing strength, flexibility, improves range of mobility, reduces stress. Yogalates is the flow between Pilates and Yoga flow.
Suitable for all abilities with a small level of fitness, I do offer modifications, alternatives and rests throughout allowing you to practice at your own pace.
My classes are non-competitive! We don't do headstands, handstands or any other crazy positions you may see on other instagram sites! The classes are small & friendly, I'm happy to meet you before to have a chat through as to what to expect in the class and run through some basics if you've never been to Yoga or Pilates before.
Vinyasa Flow, Pilates and a blend of both invite you to be exactly as you are. Hope to see you on the mat!
